The official total number of aircraft built is usually quoted as 7781. This production list adds to 7777

Australian built aircraft (A52-1 to A52-212) had c/ns DHA3001 to DHA3212.
A52-210 (c/n DHA3210) was rebuilt as c/n DHA3236.
The Canadian Cabinet approved the sale of 174 surplus Mosquito aircraft and 35 airframes to China on 25 August 1947.
205 of these can be specifically identified and 123 can be matched to Chinese serials.
The Operations Record books contain a large number of errors in respect of serials, particularly when an aircraft was lost. An explanation of the system by which these errors arose might be instructive.
The ORBs were typed up after the end of the month to which they related, and sometimes several months after. During the month the recording officer would generally note the code letter of each aircraft on a mission and the names of the crew, but not the aircraft serial. He would type up the ORB after the end of the month and match the aircraft serial to the code from a cross reference sheet or other record.
When an aircraft was lost, transferred to another unit or sent for major repair the replacement machine would generally be given the same letter code as its predecessor. Consequently if the cross reference source did not reflect the date of change in serial/code then errors would be made in the ORB. Invariably this would involve recording the new serial instead of the old one throughout the month in which the old machine was lost.
This error is repeated many times in the ORB of 23 Squadron. An example is in respect of the loss of Sgt JT Farrelly and Sgt L Sabine on 17.8.43. The August 1943 ORB records the aircraft as HX820 code 'X'. However the Form 78 history card shows that this aircraft only arrived in Malta on the 1st October 1943 and was not lost in service but scrapped in 1946. This implies that the ORB for August was not typed up until at least October.
The actual serial was presumably one of the aircraft coded 'X' that was in service prior to HX820 and probably the second predecessor.
The 23 Squadron ORB is totally unreliable from the time they left the UK in December 1942 and the serials quoted in all casualty reports are suspect.
MT480 is reported as having been delivered 18.9.44. There is no history card for this aircraft and no known history.
Ten surviving 60SAAF aircraft were retained by the SAAF and re-serialled 4801-4810.
The previous RAF serials are believed to be NS684, NS691, NS700, NS749, NS781, RF991, RG129, RG134, RG143 and RG150. The tie-up to the SAAF serials is not known. 4802 was coded 'JS-Q' and 4805 was 'JS-L'
